A woman and child are among three victims shot in broad daylight in Times Square Saturday, according to the police and fire officials.
The shooting occurred just before 5 p.m. in the corner of 44th Street and Seventh Avenue, according to preliminary details provided by the police. The New York Post reports the woman was the child’s mother but NYPD could not confirm their relationship.
NYPD said there were two victims, but according to an FDNY/EMS spokesperson, paramedics responded to three people shot at the location, but could not provide further details.
Officers are now on the hunt for the shooter who remains at large. The shooting comes just as the city continues to slowly reopen as more and more people continue to get vaccinated. It also comes as the number of shooting incidents have increased this past month.
The woman and child were taken to a local hospital where they were expected to survive their injuries, police said. NBC News reported the woman suffered a gunshot wound to her leg and that they were taken to Bellevue Hospital.
